A history of quality, public education
Belltrees Public School had several false starts throughout the 1870's. Mr George James Cobb and Mr William Asser had multiple attempts to establish a school for the Belltrees community rejected. In rebellion to these rejections, Mr Asser began operating a private school from a hut on the property in 1875. However, this was not meant to last and Mr Asser was resigned to the fact he would not lead the establishment of a local school. Therefore, Mr Cobb sough another teacher, Mr Murray Allen, who would satisfy the Council of Education's expectations.
This application proved successful and the school was granted provisional status to begin operations in April 1876. To achieve the distinction of Public School, the school was required to maintain an enrolment of 25 students. This task would take over 3 years to achieve, with the school formally opening in 1879 asĀ Belltrees Public School.
The generations of the White family, who have owned Belltrees since 1853 have played a most important and invaluable role in the progress of the school and have, over the years to the present day, displayed enthusiasm in the activities and welfare of the school by their assitance, guidance and generosity.
